Preparatory Shoot 2 -
Plans for shoot - 05/03/2019 shoot photos around a housing estate using parks, walls and pavements as my chosen location. For this shoot I am going to use a tripod to get focused and centred images.
Research - I decided to continue to look at Irving Penn and the way he shot his photos. The reason being because I've always been drawn to portrait photography and seeing how Penn shot some of these images including locations that could tell a story it gave me the idea to also do so. After researching Penn's style I found out that one technique he would use to get great photos was to create the right environment. So I tried to do this for the shoot.
Contact Sheet -

My idea for this shoot was to take my friend Ellie and put her in a local park as my location. I felt like this would be a good location as I could show a journey of " a walk in the park'. By her wearing an all black and white outfit with the contrast of pink trainers I thought it would reflect on how this shoot shows in depth the fashion and idea behind what teenagers wear. It also reflects a quite urban street vibe in this location. My personal favourite was the "pink wall" as it picked up on the pink in her trainers and with the singular horizontal line it breaks up the plain blank wall making it look more interesting.
In this shoot I again set my camera up using the manual mode. However this time I also used a tripod which meant that many of the images had the same measurements and were more centred than my last shoot. I also experimented by setting up the camera and using a timer so I myself could feature in the images and explore the idea of 'Friends hanging out'. However I feel that these photos weren't the strongest and next time I would prefer to do this in a more enclosed location.
My artist research helped through my shoot as my continuing to follow the same artist I was able to try and experiment with other ways he too shot his images. By this time looking at the environment I was working in and trying to focus more on the perspective of the pictures as Penn had done. I feel that I was able to continue to look at portrait photography within a location.
I feel overall my shoot was successful and my images slightly improved from shoot 1. The reason this being because I focused more on the perspectives of the images and what angles they had been shot from. By including a range of wide and short angle shots and keeping the images in a portrait style.
Progression -
For my next shoot, I want to try and capture someone younger perhaps in a school uniform. This setting may show after school walks and adventures. I will focus on more close up and wide shots and for this shoot I wont use a tripod again.

Best Images -
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
(analysis of images underneath image)
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
